Demonstration Today in Toronto, Canada, in Support of the Women of Herat
Toronto – June 13, 2026
A number of women, human rights activists, members of the Afghan community, and supporters of women's rights gathered today in Toronto, Canada, and held a demonstration to express their solidarity with the women and girls of Herat.
Participants in the gathering carried banners and placards in support of the rights of Afghan women, condemned the repression and detention of women in Herat, and called for greater attention and serious action by the international community in response to human rights violations in Afghanistan.
Chanting slogans in support of freedom, justice, and the right of women to education and work, the demonstrators emphasized that Afghan women should not be left alone in the face of ongoing restrictions, arrests, and violence. They also urged international organizations to adopt a stronger and more decisive stance regarding the situation of women in Afghanistan.
The demonstration took place amid recent reports of the detention of women and the violent treatment of protesters in Herat.
